  • Establishing and prioritizing your retirement plan objectives;
  • Analyzing your company, industry, and workforce to determine which type of plan, or combination of plans, is best suited to your needs;
  • Providing relevant projections including annual contribution levels, tax deferrals, and the portion of contributions/benefits going to owners or other key personnel; 
  • Coordinating with all parties to ensure the setup and maintenance of the plan(s) run smoothly.


Investment Policy and Asset Allocation


  • Establishing specific investment objectives, restrictions, guidelines, and procedures for managing and monitoring the retirement plan;
  • Providing risk management and valuation analysis to help you establish an appropriate asset allocation, the most important part of the investment process;
  • Synthesizing the above into a formal, written investment and retirement plan roadmap - the Investment Policy Statement.


Investment Management1


  • Analyzing and selecting the securities and funds to be used for investment;
  • Constructing the investment portfolio;
  • Monitoring individual investments, asset class valuations and risk factors, and making appropriate portfolio adjustments when warranted;
  • Rebalancing periodically or when market changes dictate; 

 

1 For employee-directed plans such as 401(k)s, fund selection consists of choosing appropriate plan offerings, and portfolio construction entails the building of model portfolios for participants.
